Recently some Surface devices having issues to connect with SHAW or 5GHz networks, Including Public Open WiFi like Start Bucks. But these devices can connect with any other WiFi.

The reason for this issue is a network driver (Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller) update (15.68.17013.110).

To resolve this issue, we have to roll back the driver to it’s previous version. No factory reset is necessary.

Step by Step process:

Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters > Double click Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller > Click on Roll Back Driver button.

If the Roll Back Driver button is unclickable (Grayed out), Click on Uninstall Device and check Delete the driver software for this device and click on Uninstall. Restart the computer. The previous version of this driver will get automatically installed. Now connect with Internet and go to Windows Settings > Updates & Security > Check for update. It will update to version 15.68.17013.110. If it doesn’t update the driver to version 15.68.17013.110 and Roll Back  button is grayed out in device manager then the issue is resolved. Else restart the device. Now you can go to Device Manager again and Roll Back Device button should be clickable and click on it to roll back the driver, this way whenever you will update the device again this driver will not be updated to version 15.68.17013.110.

And the issue is Resolved, Now you can connect with any 5GHz networks. Please make sure the driver version is 15.68.9125.57 or below.
